How it works
Switch schools in 3 steps
Cancel your contract in writing
Send your current school the cancellation form attached to your contract, or any other written notice. The contract is cancelled as soon as you send it. Registered mail gives you proof of sending.
Ask for your course attestation
Your former school must give it to you free of charge within 10 days of the cancellation. It shows the steps of your course you already completed. Keep your invoice or receipt too.
Register at Vision Plus
Contact our team when you register. They will tell you what to bring so your penalty fees are paid, and plan the rest of your course.
What the law says
In Quebec, the Consumer Protection Act governs the cancellation of a course contract, including a driving course.
- Before the course starts: you can cancel with no fees and no penalty.
- After the course starts: you pay for the lessons already taken, plus a penalty equal to the lesser of two amounts: $50 or 10% of the price of the lessons not taken.
- Refund: the school has 10 days to refund any balance owed to you.
FAQ
Your questions about switching schools
Do I lose the lessons I already took?
No. Your course attestation lists the modules and driving sessions you already completed. Our team plans the rest of your training from there.
How much is the cancellation penalty?
$50 at most. If the course has started, the law caps the penalty at the lesser of $50 or 10% of the price of the lessons not taken. At Vision Plus, we pay these fees for you.
Can my former school charge me for the attestation?
No. The course attestation must be given free of charge, at the end of the course or within 10 days of the contract being cancelled.
My former school closed. What do I do?
If you did not get your attestation before the school closed, the SAAQ can issue a replacement course attestation (attestation de cours supplétive). See the SAAQ form (in French).
What documents should I bring?
Contact our team when you register. They will tell you exactly what to bring.
